Fall Flamenco Dance Classes

  • Murphy's Irish Arts Center 24000 Mercantile Road Beachwood, OH, 44122 United States (map)

Mondays September 23 - December 9th

7-7:30pm

Flamenco rhythm circle - all levels, musicians & dancers welcome

Join us for a flamenco rhythm circle that will focus on the rhythm of bulerias and the community and improvisation of flamenco. We’ll play palmas (rhythmic handclaps), mark the groove with our full body, do call and response segments, and sing letras. It’s a great way to warm-up for the next class or as a stand alone to build your understanding of flamenco’s rhythms. The class will follow as show/do model as opposed to discussion/lecture.

$5/drop in

$50/12 classes, including zoom recordings

7:30 - 9pm

Mixed-level flamenco technique and repertory

The first half of each class focuses on movement technique, footwork, alignment, and musicality. The second half of the class students will learn choreography and its underlying structure.

Whether a beginner or experienced dancer, this class is suitable for those wanting to further develop dance abilities in flamenco.

Repertory:

Fandangos de Huelva

This style has a waltz feeling and is one of the simpler rhythms in flamenco. The piece will consist of 4 verses (coplas). Students will have the opportunity to perform the repertory at the end of year recital December 15th.
